Background and Purpose
The Liberal Democratic Party of Kenya (LDP) Kenya was founded in 1999 by a small group of concerned citizens with the common purpose of promoting freedom, human rights, security and opportunities in a democratic manner for the peoples of Kenya. Our goal is to be in government by the year 2007.
The Party With A Difference:
LDP is also a party for the younger generation. Our belief includes the concept that the future of Kenya lies, in greater part, in the hands of our young adults. It is for this reason that we have emphasized the importance of young adults in our day to day activities, and in our political action plans.
LDP has developed a party structure that is vastly different from the typical Kenyan political party. Unlike other Parties, LDP Kenya has a well defined administrative body that is separated from the political wing. Our administrative and executive positions (with the exception of Party leader) cannot be filled by those who have political aspirations or positions. In this way we have de-linked the party's business from its political agenda, ensuring a strong position regardless of any political wrangling. Moreover, we have an advisory council (consisting of the founding members) whose job is to arbitrate any internal conflict. The advisory council also takes instruction from party members and acts as an 'ombudsman' to LDP. Its primary function is to maintain the integrity of our purpose.
LDP promotes DEMOCRACY at every possible level, from the writing of our manifesto to the review of our constitution our members are allowed as much involvement as they feel necessary. This is not a party where 'favors' determine position. Rather every post is filled on the basis of performance, and achievement. Our administrative positions are appointed, and will soon be salaried, with contracts ensuring the efficacy of our secretariat.
What we have done:
LDP is a party with a difference; contrary to the common belief in Kenya that action cannot be taken while a political party is not in power, LDP has contributed to the community, not financially but with service. In Kitengela, LDP is associated with a re-habilitation facility for orphaned (street) children, providing them with food, water, shelter and an education. These children are a part of our community. By giving them a chance, we believe we are investing in the Future of Kenya.
LDP, along with Donors has also sponsored awareness / technical educational seminars for it's members and friends. These seminars typically span 5 days to a week and cover a broad range of topics from developing skill sets (such as training facilitators, public speakers) to ideological classes (What is liberalism? what is democracy?). LDP believes that only through the education of our members and community will progress be made.

Works In Progress
LDP has currently been making progress in developing ties with other like-minded political and or pressure groups. For some time we have been negotiating with the Eastern Action Club for Africa, a pressure group with the mission of protecting the rights of minorities in Kenya. We have also begun discussion with university students with the goal of finding employment for students shortly after graduation. We hope to develop this partnership, and will make their plight a priority in our manifesto.
Our Membership
Our membership, while relatively modest covers a larger area of Kenya. We currently have numerous candidates running in 8 constituencies, all of whom believe in our common goal of promoting democracy, liberalism and protecting our citizens human rights.
